The Wright County Supervisors Monday morning appointed John Mandal of Dows to be the interim sheriff due to the retirement of Paul Schultz last Friday. Schultz retired after 12 years as Wright County sheriff.Mandal will be paid a salary of $63,000. Last Saturday Jim Lester announced his intentions to be a Republican candidate for sheriff. On Monday,Jason Schluttenhofer of Clarion announced his plans to be a candidate for sheriff on the Republican ticket. The Wright County GOP will hold a county convention on Saturday,March 9 in Clarion to make their choice of either Lester or Schluttenhofer to be the candidate in the special election The supervisors set Tuesday,April 16 at the date for this election.
In another matter the Wright County Supervisors set the date of Monday,April 8 at 10:00 for a public hearing for the work on Drainage District 176 located two and a half miles east of Clarion.
A resolution was approved to maintain in force those area having flood hazards in Wright County. No objection was raised as the resolution was passed and adopted.
Several Wright County landowners met with the supervisors in regards to the dangerous obstruction in the right of way. Letters were sent out to the property owners instructing them to remove these obstructions. The owners complied with the request.
The Wright County Social Services Department will officially take possession of the former First Citizens National Bank building in Clarion in early March.
