The Webster City Hotel Motel Tax Board Thursday evening approved recommending five of the six requests for funding. The grand total was  set at $37,417. They are as follows:

Art in Boone River Country requesting $6,400 for next year's sculpture contest and sculpture workshop for children. The event will take place August 6 to 8,2013.

Webster City Community Theatre requested  $6,904 to fund the Camp Creamery theater camp next summer featuring three staff members from the Old Creamery Theater in Amana. The camp is aimed at children ages 7 and up to learn the basics of the theater and the chance to present a play to a live audience. The remaining funds will go toward advertising the lineup of shows for 2013.

City of Webster City requested $8,000 for updating the city's website. The current website has been online since 2003.

Wilson Brewer Historic Park Committee requested $12,181 to help fund their information center at the park on Superior Street and for special activities during the year including Memorial Day, Heritage Day, Veterans Day and a celebration of 100 years of the Boy Scout program in Webster City.

Webster City Women's Club requested $3,931 for building a handicap ramp at the Jane Young House in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The Webster City Hotel Motel Tax Board voted down the request from Webster City Bowl for $24,901.The reason for turning down the request was that the board did not want to set a precedent of granting tax monies to a business where direct personal gain could be had.

The board will make a presentation at the Webster City City Council meeting on January 7th presenting the requested recommendations. It will be up to the council to make the final decision.
