On Monday evening, the Webster City Education Association presented their proposal for a new contract for the 2013-14 school year. The association proposed an increase in the B.A. base to $35,000. As for supplemental pay, the association proposed a six percent wage increase for the special projects video group director who will be responsible with running the video board during athletic events at the Webster City high school gymnasium. The board is waiting for information on insurance rates for the coming year for the association members. The Webster City school board will come back with their counter proposal at their next meeting on March 11th.

The date of March 25 was set for a public hearing for the 2013-14 school calendar at the school administration building.

The Webster City school district is now part of the Pepsi generation. The Webster City school board signed a contract with Pepsi Cola bottlers in providing Pepsi soft drink and water products during all home athletic events beginning this spring. The contract is for a five year period. The old contract with Coca-Cola expired last week with the final winter sporting event at the Webster City high school gymnasium.

A fund raising project for Dawn Scholtens and her second grade class at Sunset Heights elementary school was approved by the Webster City school board. For the second year in a row the students will give up taking a shower or bath for a week as a way to raise money to build a well in Africa for school students. Last year an estimated $2000 was raised for a similar well construction project in Kenya. The shower strike event will be held sometime this spring.
