Stratford School Board prepares for election in September and summer project

 The Stratford Community School Board Wednesday evening received an update on the building and renovation projects underway this summer. Superintendent Sarah Binder informed the board that the ELC room will be completed by August 1st. The parking lot will be repaved in August and completed by the start of the school year. Binder said the school gymnasium has a new coat of paint on the inside. Work on renovating the concession stand will be done in the future.

Catherine Bergman was hired to become the new Stratford E.L.C (Early Learning Center) Director this summer. The board approved the hiring at Wednesday's meeting. Bergman has been serving as the  long time director of Hamilton County S.E.E.D office. In another personnel issue, the board accepted the resignation of Chelsea Heeren as preschool teacher.

The Stratford school board voted Wednesday evening to have no increase in student registration and meals for the upcoming school year. The back to school registration dates will be August 7 from 4 until 7 p.m. and August 8 from 9 until 12 noon. Instrumental music director Jon Jensen is conducting a special summer education program as he is offering free band lessons for students and a chance for students to learn about different music instruments.

In another matter, the Statford School Board learned about a summer school program called "Camp Learn-a-lot". This program began this week and will be offered again the weeks of July 8 and 29. Students will be learning math skill and on literacy. Superintendent Binder said there are 10 students involved in the first week of the "Camp Learn-a-lot" program. The board reviewed the student achievement goals focusing on learning and on the core curriculum during the past year and for 2013-14.

The board learned that the terms of three school board members will expire this September. They are Vance Cook, Toni Larson and Julie Patterson. Nomination papers can be picked up beginning July 8 and returned before 5:00 p.m. on August 1. Voters in the Stratford district will consider renewing the SILO (School Infrastructure Local Option) sales tax for another ten year period this year. Election day is Tuesday,September 10th.
