At their recent meeting the Stratford City Council heard from City Manager Rachel Cahill regarding the 2014 Fiscal Year budget. Cahill said that the nex taxable valuations were up as compared to the 2013 Fiscal Year resulting in an $8,093 increase in levies for the city. Cahill commented that health insurance,IPERS benefits and operation expenses are also expected to increase. The Stratford council will have a budget workshop at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, February 11. A budget request from the Stratford Public Libary was presented. The Library is requesting a $1000 increase in their request but their budget also shows that revenues from the county and state are higher than last year. The Stratford Fire Department requested an increase of $5000 in their budget for next fiscal year. It was noted that township levies for fire support have also increased. The Stratford City Council approved the budget request from Upper Des Moines Opportunity in the amount of $470 for the 2014 Fiscal Year. The council also approved the Stratford Fire and Rescue application for Doug Timmons.
The following resolutions were approved by the Statford City Council. The resolutions include city employees to attend meetings deemed necessary for their city work and for city employees to receive reimbursement for mileage and related expenses, a snow removal policy for South Marion and Oakwood Cemeteries,a Records Management and Retention Policy,a City Investment Policy and the establishement of a City of Stratford City Council Procedural Rules.
The Stratford City Council approved and authorized the Mayor to sign the Department of Transportation application from the Webster City Snowmobile Club for snowmobiles to travel on Highway 175 within the city limits and authorize the City Manager to create a resolution to approve the proposed snowmobile route on the City of Stratford's public right of ways noting that this approval does not include crossing over private properties.Mike Nepperney was appointed as a representative and Rachel Cahill as alternate to the North Central Iowa Regional Solid Waste Agency.
