South Hamilton School Board

A lengthy discussion at this week's meeting of the South Hamilton Community School Board focused on retirement for staff. The board voted to discontinue the current retirement program but a Stipend Retirement program was adopted. The program will be available  to employees age 55 with 15 years of continuous service in the South Hamilton district. Certified staff would receive  $1,000 for each year of service to a maximum of 25 years and $500 for support staff. This program will be offered every year. A deadline of December 1st was set for those staff members interested in applying for the program each year. The program will be in effect with the 2012-13 fiscal year. The South Hamilton board will address the retirement program for the administration staff at another meeting.

The preliminary enrollment report for South Hamilton was discussed. The official submittal for student enrollment is October 18th. School staff members are currently putting the final touches on the report. The official student enrollment will be shared at the November school board meeting.

In another matter, the South Hamilton school board resolved to make an interfund loan. The loan will transfer money from the General Fund to the SAVE fund in the amount of $540,000 at an interest rate of 1% and set monthly payments of $30,000 with a balloon payment of the balance to be paid in September,2013. The interfund loan will be paid by October 1,2013. Superintendent Tim Johnson shared with the board a list of projects compiled by administration and staff. The list of projects will be reviewed and prioritized.

South Hamilton students in grades 6,8 and 11 will be participating in the Iowa Youth Survey on Wednesday,October 24. The survey is a very useful tool to help the district understand the needs of students better.

In personnel matters, the board approved Wayne Risetter as a permanent substitute bus driver.

High School principal Scott Dryer informed the board on the following students to be honored at the Webster City Rotary Leadership banquet next month. The students are  Jacob Bennett, Chrisian Brinkley, Brittany Butler, Joshua Doering, John Greenfield, Lane Heinlein, Brittany Nicholson, Lucas Olson, Maggie Peters, and Sarah Rudy.

The South Hamilton board voted to continue to meet on the second Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. for the 2012-13 school year.

Mike Grove was re-elected as board president and Will Johnston was re-elected as board vice president for 2012-13.
