Rockwell City police officer shot, killed in standoff.

 A Rockwell City police officer was shot and killed in a standoff at a residence. Iowa DCI Special Agent in Charge Michael Motsinger said 37 year old  Jamie Buenting died of his wounds following the incident. The man who shot Officer Buenting was identified as 32 year old Corey Trott. He is facing a charge of first degree murder and is being held in the Calhoun County Jail.Motinger said Buenting is a 14 year law enforcement veteran. He was also a member on a regional Special Emergency Response Team as well as a firearm instructor. The standoff ended sometime after 5:00 Friday morning at 502 Pleasant Street in Rockwell City. Officials said Buenting was shot and killed during the standoff that at about 9:30 Thursday night. The case remains under investigation by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
