Posted: Jun 29 2013 by ppowers

Over $39,000 was raised Friday night at the South Hamilton High School track during the annual Hamilton County Relay for Life event. The funds raised will benefit the work of the American Cancer Society.Local cancer officials are expecting more funds to pour in over the next few weeks. 18 teams from across the county participated in the benefit.Highlights included the survivor's lap, caregivers lap and the team lap. A benefit pie auction was a part of the evening's festivities. Relay participants enjoyed the yard games, frozen t-shirt contest and the different laps every hour. A fireworks display finished up the evening by the members of the Williams Lions Club. One of the moving ceremonies was the Luminaria display. Names were read to honor both the memory and to honor cancer survivors from across the county. Due to the windy conditions the luminaria bags were placed near the concession stand. There is still time to contribute to this year's Relay for Life. Please send your contributions to Bev Huisman in Webster City. A big  thanks goes out to the organizers and to all who participated in the 2013 edition of the Relay for Life.
