Posted: Feb 15 2013 by ppowers

During their monthly meeting held Thursday, the Northeast Hamilton School Board discussed this year's sports participant numbers for the summer and fall months. Superintendent Pat Hocking said a meeting was held with all coaches on sports numbers for the 2013-14 school year. The discussions were very good with everyone looking at what is best for Northeast Hamilton. Administration has met with high school class officers for feedback as well. Hocking recommended the board direct the Athletic Director and administration to conduct a community meeting to share the numbers and receive feedback from the community. This would be an open forum event with no decisions being made. A date for this meeting will be announced in the near future.

The Northeast Hamilton board learned that total valuations for the district for the 2013-14 school year is at $190,641,570. The increase in part is due to the value of land in the Hamilton County area. Last year's valuation is $177,646,865.

A discussion on PPEL (Physical Plant and Equipment Levy) funded projects was a part of the meeting. The projects would include the purchase of iPads for 3rd through 7th graders, a new bus, new school vehicle, installing of a wireless sound system for the school cafeteria for meetings, new microphones for the gym sound system, paving the west parking lot, the purchase of a new color copier and siding both the tractor shed and weight room. This issue will be discussed at next month's board meeting.

There was a review of Drivers Education fees for this summer. Superintendent Hocking recommended charging $255 per student and paying the instructor $200 per student. This will be an action item at the March Northeast Hamilton School Board meeting.

Board members approved the contracts for Deb Larson for Special Eeducation Associate, Chace Pruismann as head baseball coach, Natalie Ostheimer as head softball coach,Shannon Muhlenbrook as head boys track coach and Josh Vanderloop as junior high boys track coach.
