Main Street Iowa Recognizes Outstanding Achievements

 The 27th annual Main Street Iowa Awards celebration was held at Veteran's Auditorium in Des Moines on Friday,May 17. Hamilton County was represented at the event which was attended by Heidi Nye and Amber Davis of Ellsworth, Rachel Cahill of Stratford and Fred and Ann Marcalus, Carroll and Eileen McLuckie and Bruce Johnson of Jewell. More than 400 individuals were in attendance representing nearly 50 communities from across the state. Competitive nominations were submitted for 105 projects:26 were selected for awards and six received honorable mention. Hamilton County S.E.E.D. received the following awards:2012 Ellsworth Extravaganza Parade and Celebration received an honorable mention and Carroll McLuckie was acknowledged for his volunteer service. Governor Terry Branstad, Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds and Debi Durham, director of the Iowa Economic Development Authority presented the honors. Main Street Volunteer of the Year awards were presented to 47 individuals or couples who were selected by their community for outstanding dedication and volunteer service benefiting the local Main Street program. In its 27 year history, Main Street Iowa has tracked over $1.2 billion in private investment in the purchase, construction, and rehabilitation of property in participating commercial districts, significantly increasing the state's job and business base. In addition, over two million hours of volunteer time has been logged collectively by local main street organizations.
