A wide range of questions faced the candidates during a forum Thursday night in the Webster City City Council chambers. The forum was sponsored by the Hamilton County League of Women Voters and broadcast on both KQWC Radio and Cable Channel 12. Participating in the forum were Democratic candidate for Iowa House District 48 Becky Perkovich of Napier. Perkovich's challenger Republican Rob Bacon was not in attendance due to the fact that he was at Fort Benning, Georgia attending the graduation of his son on Friday.The candidates for Senate District 24 featuring Democract Shelly Stotts and Republican Jerry Behn both of Boone were featured. Questions posed to the three candidates focused on the environment,allowable growth for schools, early childhood education, the needs of the mentally ill, voter identification and more.
Other candidates participating in the forum were Myra Maxon and Carroll Ose who are two of the three candidates for Van Diest Medical Center board of trustees. Both candidates expressed their willingness to serve and the future direction of the medical facility. Another medical center board candidate George Heller was extended an invitation to participate in the forum but turned it down.
Catherine Bergman of the Hamilton County S.E.E.D. economic development office presented information on the vote to renew the Hamilton County Hotel Motel Tax. The unopposed candidates for office including Auditor Kim Schaa, Sheriff Dennis Hagenson and Supervisors Doug Bailey and Wes Sweedler participated in the forum.
