Humboldt County Fatality

 On Saturday, September 28, 2013 at approximately 9:35 p.m., a single vehicle fatality collision occurred on Lone Tree Road approximately 4.5 miles southeast of Humboldt in Humboldt County. 

A 2010 Chevrolet Equinox was traveling northbound on Lone Tree Road.  The vehicle was being operated by, Merle Dean Larson, age 82, of rural Badger.  The lone passenger was Dorothy Lea Larson, age 77, of rural Badger.  The vehicle was northbound on Lone Tree Road when it exited the left side of the roadway.  The vehicle struck a bridge marker sign and then went airborne over a creek bed.  The vehicle struck the north side embankment and then rolled back into the water-filled creek coming to rest on its top. 

Merle Larson was wearing a safety belt and was extricated from the vehicle.  He was transported to Humboldt County Hospital and then airlifted to Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.  Dorothy Larson was not wearing a safety belt.  She was partially ejected from the vehicle during the collision.  Dorothy Larson was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Iowa State Patrol is conducting the ongoing investigation.  They were assisted at the scene by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department, Humboldt Fire Department, Humboldt Ambulance and Mid Iowa Towing.
