Larry Frakes (center) was welcomed by the Northeast Hamilton Community School Board at their Thursday evening meeting in Blairsburg. Frakes began his duties July 1st when former superintendent Pat Hocking moved to Lisbon to begin a similar superintendent's job. Frakes comes to Northeast Hamilton after serving as principal at Keokuk high school. Prior to Keokuk, Frakes was the superintendent at Belmond Klemme.
The Northeast Hamilton school board accepted a bid in the amount of $198,620 from Habhab Construction for building a new bus barn. The barn will be located near the school grounds. There will be six stalls for the buses and will be heated. Work on the new bus barn will begin in the next few weeks.
In another matter the Northeast Hamilton board tabled final action on the student handbook until next month's board session. There needs to be a change in the language for student academics and the missed assignment study hall (MASH) program.
A student teacher contract with Buena Vista University for next school year was approved by the board for the 2013-14 school year. The board also accepted the resignation of Sara Utera as food service director with Shari Olson to be her replacement. John Seiser was hired as a fifth grade teacher and Paige Moberly as an At-Risk coordinator. Kathy Biere was sworn in as the school district secretary at Northeast Hamilton by new shared business manager Cathi Hildebrand.
