The sun returned today to Webster City and the surrounding area after a blizzard Thursday afternoon and evening produced high winds and snow to the entire KQWC listening area. In the end, Webster City received five inches of snow until early this morning. The wet snow started about 11:30 Thursday morning. Many events and meetings were canceled or postponed due to the weather. Webster City City Hall, the Hamilton County Courthouse, Fuller Hall, Kendall Young Library and many other places closed early due to the severe winter weather. Travel was next to impossible due to ice and snow covered highways. Interstate 35 was closed for much of last night forcing truck drivers and other motorists to seek shelter at either the Boondocks or Broadway Flying J truck stops near Williams. There was no school Friday at Belmond Klemme, Clarion Goldfield-Dows,Eagle Grove and Northeast Hamilton due to the winter weather conditions. Snowplows and trucks helped remove the snow from the business and residential sections of Webster City during the morning on Friday. County maintainers and plows removed the snow from roads and highways across Hamilton County during the day. Electrical service was disrupted for a period in Webster City due to the wind and snow. Webster City Municipal Electrical crews helped restore power to those affected. The weekend should be on the dry side with highs Saturday and Sunday in the 20s. There is another chance of snow for Monday.
