The annual Character Counts Day is coming to Webster City Middle School on Wednesday,March 13. The theme this year is "Catch The Wave With Character Counts". You are invited to stop by and see the commons wall around the theme for the week, see the classroom doors decorated in the theme and feel the sense of the appreciation when we help others and exhibit good character through the building. Interested parents, business representatives, staff members and community members are invited to join the middle school students and staff on this big day. There will be 20 guest speakers at the middle school during the morning to promote the importance of the six pillars of character and the importance of reaching out to help others through a variety of experiences. Each speaker will be presenting two to four different classes. The presentations will be approximately 30 minutes beginning at 8:20 with speakers coming from various locations in Iowa and here in Webster City. Rich Wieber from Minnesota will be using his bicycle  stunts and motivating message to present a high energy and fast paced program that will inspire the students to live out their dreams. Miss Iowa, Mariah Cary will be appearing on Character Counts Day to share some motivational tips around the importance of good character, setting goals, and being the best person you can be. She will also be sharing her "tap dance" talent which she performed at the recent Miss America competition. During the afternoon, more exposure to the importance of helping others and the six pillars of character will take place when a Taste of Character will be held in Jefferson Gym for all students, staff and community members. Everyone will have the opportunity to taste a small sample of food representing the pillars of character. Various service clubs and other organizations will be on hand to distribute the samples. Entertainment for the afternoon will include students demonstrating their tumbling and dancing talents from the Dance Connection. Also the high school jazz band and high school vocalists will be appearing in the afternoon to provide background music for a Taste of Character. In the spirit of helping others, the middle school students will be traveling to the elementary buildings to work with elementary students. All afternoon sessions will begin at 1:00 p.m.
